To be honest, I’m anxious. Not because the models are so powerful that they might replace me or anything, but because the frequent server overloads and ever-shrinking usage limits have made me realize that the first round of selection in this new era may already be upon us.

If human cognition is going to be fitted with an AI exoskeleton, then the gap between those who can use SOTA models and those who cannot may become enormous simply because of a single model.

And that is exactly what worries me. If using a SOTA model costs 100u, most people can probably afford it—or at least would be willing to pay. But what if today’s prices are merely subsidized? When the price reaches 200u or 400u, will most people still be willing to treat such an expensive model as a necessity when it is not guaranteed to improve their lives? That would be the first filter: money alone could divide people into those who can use SOTA models and those who cannot.

It may feel a little premature to say this while we are still in what should be the main upswing of the AI boom. Then again, perhaps saying it at this point is simply a habit of waiting for confirmation on the right side of the curve (

As for why this occurred to me, it was probably because of mythos. I saw what it could do in parts of the security field, and that struck a nerve, making me realize that they are not content to remain within coding alone.

That realization then reminded me of their work and promotion in video, as well as their experiments with music composition. They stopped being satisfied with the coding field long ago. Once an industry moves from its growth and adoption phase into a plateau, will the cost of using it remain as low as it is today?

As someone without much capital, I can only be pushed along by the times, feeling my way forward without knowing whether I am right or wrong. Perhaps that is indeed rather sad. Yet the opportunities of this new world are also laid out equally before everyone—perhaps that, too, is a gift from the times.
